Hi, my name is Noah Devereaux and I’m a wedding photojournalist living it up in the Garden Spot of New York City, beautiful Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
I started taking pictures in 5th grade with the goal of becoming a wildlife photographer. Every weekend I would walk to the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle with my dad’s old Nikkormat FTn to pretend I was the likes of Art Wolfe or Thomas Mangelson. In high school my gears shifted while on a family vacation to France where I fell in love with the work of the master of the “decisive moment” Henri Cartier-Bresson. Ever since then I’ve been chasing after decisive moments of my own. I followed my passion to the renowned School of Visual Communication at Ohio University where I earned a degree in photojournalism. After dabbling in newspaper photography I discovered that my pursuit of the decisive moment was a natural fit with wedding photography.
I love shooting weddings because they are so rich with the moments and emotions that I seek out as a photographer. From beginning to end I take a very hands off approach to capture natural moments throughout the day. I believe that the best moments can’t be staged and it takes the combination of a sharp eye and lots of patience to catch them. I use my skills as a visual storyteller to build a narrative of the wedding day from the anticipation while getting ready to the excitement of the ceremony to the celebration afterward. My approach is very quiet and discrete to tell your story without being a part of the story.
When I’m not behind the camera I love taking in all this amazing city has to offer from the spectacularly diverse architecture to the hole in the wall ethnic restaurants. Even when I’m out and about I always keep my eyes tuned for the little things that I love about New York City which I then capture with my iPhone camera and upload to my blog Phone It In. I also maintain a website of personal and editorial work called Visual Mumbling and a blog that is a collecting point for all my various photographic endeavors. I’d encourage you to check all those sites out to get a better sense of who I am as a photographer and a person.
