Funeral at Arlington

My deepest condolences and thanks go out to the Madrazo family for letting me into their life at a really difficult time.

Yesterday I had the privilege of attending a funeral at Arlington Cemetery for Nic Madrazo, a Seattle area Marine who died while serving in Afghanistan. My friend and fellow photogrpaher Matt Lutton is a friend of the family and asked them if I could be there to take pictures at the gravesite service and I’m very grateful to them for allowing me this opportunity.

To the Madrazo Family… we are deeply saddened by your loss of Nic. He was and is a hero. Our Country owes all of you our gratitude and respect, for you have had to pay the highest price on our behalf. For our safety, you have had to endure the pain of losing your beloved one and though you don’t know us… we are praying for you, we have wept for you and we are deeply indebted to you! May our Lord’s Blessing’s cover you and your family during this most difficult time.
Thank you is just not enough…
    Our Love & Prayers,
    The Downing Family~

Beautifully done capturing the emotions and soberness of this burial and at the same time capturing the beauty of honoring a fallen hero and his loving family graveside.
My compliments on the professional quality of your photos and the respect given to those in attendance.

  3. [...] haven’t been able to get much together to share here since. First have a look at my friend Noah Devereaux’s pictures from Nic’s funeral at Arlington National in D.C. I set it up so he would attend the service [...]

  4. Noah,
Some really beautiful and thoughtfully done photos here. Funerals are the most difficult thing I have ever had to photograph partially because of my own moral qualms and you did this respectfully and beautifully. I hope the family will be happy to have these photos after the passage of time and I’m sure they will. I only wish this part of the war at home was shown a little more.
