I’m on TV

Very briefly. The embed link doesn’t work so you’ll have to go here to see it. You can see me about 50 seconds in. You have to look close.
Anyhow, this is from the first assignment I shot for Education Week newspaper. Unfortunately it wasn’t an especially visual situation. It was supposed to be a protest by teachers in support of DC schools chancellor Michelle Rhee but it turned into a closed door meeting with the a handful of teachers and Washington Teachers Union officials. The first assignment was a bit of a bust but I’m really interested in the ongoing changes in DC public schools and would be interested in pursuing this story more in the future.

These carry-out bags somehow found their way all over East Potomac Park. There was also one floating in the water but I only had a 28mm lens with me so it doesn’t show up so well in any of my photos.

The More Things Change….

Via Shorpy.com
Pretty much anywhere I live for any period of time I get really interested in the history of the place. While browsing Shorpy.com I came across this old photo of the next block up from mine from 1920. I especially find it fascinating to see where my neighborhood is going but it’s also interesting to see where it came from. Back in the day these houses were mass manufactured but unlike houses today, the quality of build stands up to the test of time. The people may be completely different but on the outside not much has changed on this block.

District of Columbia, 1919 or 1920. "Washington Times, 609 to 637 Princeton Street." National Photo Company Collection glass negative.

Same block 88 years later.
