Mardi Gras - Mamou, Louisiana

The tiny rice farming town of Mamou in central Louisiana bills itself as the home of Cajun culture and is renowned for its over the top Mardi Gras celebrations. On one side of town the Cajun community throws the Courir de Mardi Gras parade marching through the countryside while on the other side of town the black community has a nearly identical parallel celebration that borrows upon those Cajun traditions. To this day the boozy all-day celebrations remain deeply segregated.

In the future I intend on returning to Mamou to further explore the similarities and differences in this deeply divided community.
